The Want to Dance Festival, initiated in 2019 by Po-yuan Chung, the Artistic Director of Shinehouse Theatre, and Keng Yi-wei, the advisor chief-dramaturg of National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts-Weiwuying, has become Taiwan's first privately organized international dance platform in Wanhua, Taipei. The festival guides audiences to enjoy various experimental and evolving dance works in the city with a relaxed attitude and different perspectives.
In its upcoming sixth edition in 2024, the Want to Dance Festival will be curated by Po-Yuan Chung, with Keng Yi-Wei and Gwen Hsin-Yi Chang, the independent producer of AxE Arts Europa (Taiwan / Luxembourg), serving as curatorial consultant and consultant of international affairs, respectively. Utilizing both Wan Theater and several unconventional theatre spaces in Wanhua, the festival provides a diverse stage for creators and performance teams. It invites domestic and international festival curators, venue representatives, and local audiences to join the festivities. Additionally, the festival will organize workshops, pitch sessions, speed meetings, and mingle events to stimulate further development and collaboration opportunities. Wanhua, one of the earliest-developed areas in Taipei, serves as a space for creators, audiences, curators, and local culture and landscapes to interact, initiating a dance marathon that combines local vitality with experimental and traditional festival spirits.
