I probably understood something at the moment,
It may not be the mist or thick fog, not the missing parts between translations, not the poor pronunciation, either the alien faces nor skin tone,
But each of us lives in our own dream, which might be comfortable and bright, yet without sunlight…
And perhaps we’ve all lived with eternal fears, wandered on the native land that will never be able to return to our roots, yet turned into the vanishing ashes that left nothing but void at the end of life. -瑪麗 Li
Inspired by the city of London, commissioned by The Place and supported by Want to Dance Festival-Exchange Program in 2024, Dance Solo MARY 李(瑪麗 Li) focus on the multicultural environment in contemporary society, to create the characteristics of MARY 李 and the narrative structure of the work; experiment with the diversity of personal expression, communication and understanding across cultures, moreover, attempting to ask the big issue about the native culture which might be rooted deeply in our bodies and minds, whether it might still be the core of our identity that define our native land and leading us toward the destination and identification of life.

Being emotional and sensitive as a dancer and actress, to explore through body and dance movements, at the same time, being rational to construct the narrative as a director and choreographer; gathering all the previous working experience in theater, dance, film and performance art, I have been keeping experimenting the structure and formats of my performing art’s work. Recently, I have focused on building up the methodology of my creative work. To discover specific architecture/space/environment and see it as the original main theme, to create the imaginary characters, dance, movements and stories which echo the characteristics, history and atmosphere of the spaces, and construct the elements into different forms, which could be presented via various media, including dance films and live-performance dance solos.
